To establish Shape from Shading Technology at FALCON, the LIC-S was developed. It enables an easy entry into "Shape from Shading" and thus offers the possibility to combine features from multiple images into a more meaningful overall image.

The LIC-S is a controller that allows cost-effective implementation of "Shape from Shading" systems. Starting from the trigger signal of a camera or SPS, it continuously switches its outputs. Segment lighting can thus be used to obtain images from different illumination angles. Different results are achieved depending on the illumination angle.

The LIC-S is a controller that enables the cost-effective implementation of "Shape from Shading" systems. Starting from the trigger signal of a camera or SPS, it continuously switches its outputs. Segment illuminations can thus be used to obtain images from different lighting angles. Different results can be achieved depending on the lighting angle.

In software, the results can be processed into an overall image with a meaningful result. The result shows a height image from which the smallest scratches or unevenness on the surface can be read. In addition, normal OCV/OCR applications can be detected by synchronously switching all segments. This makes it possible to detect multiple features in one application with one illumination and one controller!

The LIC-S offers the possibility to set individual sequences via the buttons on the front. In addition, the setting can be made using free software. So no elaborate programming is necessary.

For applications with multiple illuminations or 8-segment illuminations, an LIC-S can be synchronized with others. The hardware of the LIC-S is based on the LIC-X256N. The technology with 120 kHz pulse width modulation, the BCD display and the buttons on the front have proven themselves and are a decisive factor for customers.

A "Shape-from-Shading system" with the LIC-S requires a simple monochrome camera and software for image evaluation in addition to a segment illumination. The user is free to choose which camera and software to use.
